About Us
From Rob Robson, CEO
Fifteen years ago, I set out to create a business that young people, including my children, would be attracted too. Before then, I had been building a wholesale trading floor, where we bought and sold without much thought to business sustainability, let alone environmental stewardship. We didn’t talk about ‘sustainability’ or ‘corporate responsibility’ – we just went about our business using the values that our parents had drummed into us – looking after our people so that they would look after our business.
We were one of the first organisations to commit to training and developing our people, and their families, introducing them to self esteem and personal development courses like Dale Carnegie. I
It is not simply raw
talent and skill that
is needed!! It is our
behaviour over time
that will be
measured.
| am proud to say that there are a number of these people I worked with back then that are still part of the OneHarvest team. (And all of my children have joined the business as well).
Of course, it is the new blood and fresh ideas that continue to bring inspiration to this organisation. More than 200 people joined our team in the last eighteen months. Many of these are forming the foundation of our fledgling farming business, as well as building the team for the rapid growth in our processing operations. Our business now operates in Queensland, Northern Territory, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia. It is the increasing focus on HOW we operate as a business that interests and excites me far more than WHAT we do. I guess that as a business HOW we have operated has always been so important to the family. Now we have a name for it – SUSTAINABILITY.
Our business looks a lot different in comparison even 12 months ago. We’re building a plant in Perth, for the first time have harvested mangoes from Mataranka and Dimbulah and baby leaf from Mount Gambier, have recruited over 100 new team members, moved offices to 63 Tile Street – and we’re Woolworths Produce Supplier of the Year. The highlight of the year for me has been seeing so many of our young people grow personally and develop professionally. It was my goal to create an organisation that would be attractive to the smartest, most talented people in this country, particularly young people. I see around me every day that in fact together we are well on our way – and have managed to attract people from not only around this country but from many parts of the world.
Robust relationships with our suppliers and customers ensures this businesses sustainability. Throughout the year, our teams have strengthened these ties by working in partnership and towards our vision of delivering business value for all stakeholders.
